Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin’s participation in Hispanic Rights Advocacy

Approximately 325,000 undocumented immigrants are currently based in Arizona. The rights of most of these individuals are often violated, and the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund has been striving to protect them. The foundation was established in 2013 and has focused on offering financial aid to groups that protect immigrant, minority, and human rights. Over 25 organizations have been receiving money from the Frontera Fund. The charity organization got its name from its co-founders Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin.

They got the capital to establish it from a court settlement that they were offered after being wrongfully detained by the former sheriff of Maricopa County, Joe Arpaio. A judge ordered the county to give the two individuals $3.75 million for infringing their First Amendment rights. All this money was later invested in the establishment of Lacey and Larking Frontera Fund.

Aliento is among the groups that have gained from the generosity of Lacey and Larkin. It was founded by undocumented youths who were determined to heal the Arizona community by utilizing art and advocacy. The organization has been hosting creative events that portray the humanity of the undocumented immigrants who are usually criminalized by the natives of the land and even deported.

Aliento has used approaches such as education, art creation, workshop, and development of leaders to change how Americans perceive immigrants. Approximately one million undocumented individuals do not know their fate in the United States under the Trump administration. Many people might be deported soon since the DACA program has now been abolished. Dreamers have had difficulties accessing driver’s licenses and in-state tuition.

The activist group spent years trying to ensure that Arizona-based DACA beneficiaries were safe. It also strived to protect the existence of the DACA program before President Trump terminated it.

Aliento’s primary goal is to empower undocumented persons across Arizona by using pro-educational programs, handling deportation-related cases, healing, mindfulness, and resilience. The organization is planning to hold a massive seminar across two states to ensure that DACA advocates and beneficiaries are well informed about their rights.

The retreat will also aim at urging schools, churches, and businesses to support immigrants. Reyana Montoya, who is the head of Aliento, believes that Donald Trump’s government is a threat to immigrants. Read more: Village Voice Media | Wikipedia and Michael Lacey | LinkedIn

Justice that Works is also another major group that receives donations from the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. The activist organization has gained a lot of followers in the grassroots, and its primary goal is to ensure that Arizona authorities stop mass incarceration of immigrants.

It has led protests against detentions, violation of immigrant laws, and deportation of immigrants as a way of making America safe.

According to Justice that Works, the police, surveillance cameras, and the prison systems display the immortality of the current society that believes some individuals are disposable. The approaches that the government uses undermine other people’s dignity, equity, and safety by encouraging the police to treat marginalized communities with violence.

The organization wants to transform the current system since it impoverishes immigrants by denying them access to social amenities such as medical care, education, and public transport.
